Only the courageous ones are brave enough to go stand up in front of a large audience and present a speech that they wrote. Four lucky students were chosen to represent Lincoln High School by advancing to the next level and participating in the 76th Annual Lincoln Lions Club Student Speaker Contest on February 21st. The four finalists include Janeth Zamora (Junior), Simone Matecna (Sophomore), Justin Livengood (Sophomore), Mackenzie Taylor (Junior), and Alison Enriquez (Junior) as an alternate.
As Silvia Ward, an AVID and English teacher at LHS stated, “We [Lincoln High] are really trying to get the students involved more in the community.” Additionally, another one of the finalists,Janeth Zamora, a Junior, said that this contest “opened up her mind to a conflict that she would have never given very much thought to.”
The topic of this year’s contest is “What can we do to create and keep jobs in America?” and rewards each participant with a minimum of $25 while the winner will receive $75 and advance to the next level. Alison Enriquez, Junior, stated “This has been a great experience so far and has helped me step out of my comfort zone, and taught me to never give up.”
