There will be several new classes at LHS for the 2013-14 school year. ZebraTales did a little digging to find out what they’re all about. Below are the descriptions:
AP Microeconomics
Grade Level: 12
Prerequisite: Completion in previous history courses with no failing marks (Teacher recommendation is recommended.)
AP microeconomics is a more in-depth version of the class that will teach critical thinking skills and more about the subjects, “Accept the challenge.”

AP Music Theory
Grade Level: 11-12
Prerequisite: Prior LHS Music Class (Band, Chorus, or Keyboard), or private music lessons (instrumental or vocal); ability to read standard music notion
“This year long course is designed to develop musical skills that will lead to a thorough understanding of music composition and music theory. The emphasis will be on the rules of theory and composition, ear training, sight singing, score analysis, and keyboard skills. Students are prepared to take the AP Music Theory Exam when they have completed the course. Students planning to major in music in college may be able to enroll in an advanced music theory course, depending on the individual colleges’ AP policies.”

Animal Science

“Animal Scinence is a diverse and fascinating blend of applied basic life sciences, ultimately focused on enhancing the efficiency, profitability and sustainability of the domestic animal industries. This class focuses on animal nutrition, feeding health, and genetics.”

Desktop Audio
Grade Level: 10-12
Perquisite: None
“This is an introductory course to the fields of music technology and desktop music production. Students will utilize contemporary computer, software, and electronic instrument technology to create music of diverse styles and genres. The course will concentrate on advanced electronic arranging techniques using computers, synthesizers and music notation software, Reason. Through a series of MIDI projects, students learn how various instruments are combined and mixed. This is the first of the proposed three class series in Digital Audio”

Drama 2
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: Drama 1
“… Students will put on several performances over the course of the year, and they will also have the chance to perform outside of class time as well. My hope is that students in Drama 2 will attend, and compete in, the Lenaea Theater Festival next year. Im very exited about the upcoming school year and all the possibilities that Drama 2 has to offer our student body. Students should take Drama 2 because it is going to be an extremely fun class, where each student has the opportunity to be a star.”

Technology Essentials (1 semester of technology required for graduation)
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: None
This is a beginning level technology class where students will learn all about the computer including assembling the basic parts of the computer, HTML, programming, MS Word, MS Excel and even some introductory graphic design with Adobe Photoshop & InDesign CS6.

Media Communication 1
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: None
“This course is an intermediate level technology class focusing on graphic design, photography, journalism and video editing. Students will learn the Adobe Suite including Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere CS6” (Note: Students should have some experience with computers and have a basic understanding of the subjects taught in Technology Essentials before taking this class.)
